Sugi 1×6 select grade shiplap – Exterior Grade Transparent Finish
(Available in Japan only)

Yoshinogawa, Tokushima, Japan

Project Overview:

Designed by renowned architect Kengo Kuma, the Boat Race building boasts an eye-catching design that captures the dynamism of boat racing. This is achieved through the use of wooden louvers that radiate outwards, evoking the high-speed action of the sport. The louvers also serve a practical purpose, providing shade and ventilation while maintaining an open and inviting feel.

To enhance the sense of warmth and natural beauty, the building incorporates an abundance of sugi wood. This creates a soft, organic atmosphere that is both welcoming and dynamic, fitting perfectly with the energy and excitement of the boat racing scene.

In addition to the exterior design, the building’s interior is just as impressive. The ceiling is covered with louvers, which helps to create a relaxing and tranquil atmosphere. The warm tones of the wood and the gentle play of light and shadow provide a soothing ambiance, offering visitors a respite from the excitement of the race.

Overall, the building’s innovative design and creative use of materials make it a standout landmark in the area, reflecting the dynamic spirit of boat racing while also showcasing the natural beauty of the local region.
