Nakamoto Forestry offers a selection of natural, uncharred wood products that serve a wide range of design options.

Sugi cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) is primarily used for construction lumber due to its high rigidity and quick drying nature. Our Sugi siding and paneling products are sawn from straight, high-grade Japanese logs that are graded for color and to showcase the inherently beautiful grain, with or without a coating. Suitable for both interior and exterior applications.

Hinoki cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa) is a native species to Japan prized for its natural aromatics, rot-resistance, and blonde color. We offer rough-sawn and dried moulder blanks—ready for your local millwork shop. Ideal for saunas, interior paneling, ceilings, doors, and cabinetry.

Frequently Asked Questions

Toggle icon Your uncharred “Sugi” kind of looks like Western Red Cedar. Why do you offer these products when we have several local cedar and cypress species here in North America?
Toggle icon We want to use your Sugi product and maintain a natural appearance on both the exterior and interior of our project. Which Nakamoto Forestry finish coating should we use for this? Or do we need separate products for the two scopes?
Toggle icon Can we use your products specified for exterior applications indoors, or your products specified for interior applications outdoors? What about on an interior ceiling that will never get touched, or on a soffit or loggia that will never be rained on directly?
Toggle icon We want to use Nakamoto Forestry paneling on a sauna interior. Is that okay?
Toggle icon Please give us a little more information on what exactly Hinoki is?
