Considerations Toggle icon
  • Be careful of leaving sooty fingerprints when handling Pika-Pika before it is coated.
  • Soot can be cleaned off with a dry paint brush or compressed air.
  • We recommend applying and drying oil stains or coatings in a horizontal orientation before installation.
  • If coating is applied after installation, be sure to back brush the siding or paneling for an even finish.
  • Soot residue, caking, and blemishing (especially along board edges) are all common with this product.
Patina scale Toggle icon

Patina Scale: 8

The Patina Scale has been developed by Nakamoto Forestry to approximate how its products will weather over time—from 0 (“less patina/more color longevity”) to 10 (“less color longevity/more patina”). However, every product weathers at a different rate due to local conditions, and the Patina Scale is intended as general guidance only, and is solely for informational purposes. Nakamoto Forestry makes no guarantees, representations, or warranties, express or implied, regarding the appearance or color longevity of its products after installation.

Suyaki

DIY: Blemish Touch-Up

Our Yakisugi Shou Sugi Ban siding ages beautifully with minimal upkeep. It naturally develops a rich patina or can be re-oiled anytime to restore its original vibrancy. Suyaki stays black for decades, with re-oiling extending its deep color even longer.

Accessories

Our Yakisugi accessories ensure a seamless installation and lasting durability. Available as a service to customers, they require a lumber purchase but are sold separately.
