Set against the coastal breeze of the Salish Sea, this home stands with a quiet presence on its hill, clad in our GendaiĀ® Alkyd Black yakisugi āshou sugi banā to blend into the dark forest behind. With a covered outside room and large windows opening to distant skies, residents can immerse themselves in the weather as it rolls over the island. Although the home was built five years ago and has now gone through multiple winter seasons, the yakisugi siding appears fresh and sturdy.
The color has begun to lighten up slightly on the south side where UV light from the sun strikes most directly, and the soot along the edges has worn to reveal blonde streaks on the vertically installed boards. Embracing this natural patina as both character and part of the story of the structure, the owners plan to enjoy watching how the appearance of their home changes over many years to come.
