Deeply influenced by the natural and historical context of Concord, Massachusetts—the architect (Therben) aimed to create a structure that not only strengthens the connection between its occupants and nature but also blends into the environment. While respecting the traditional style and material elements of the area, such as pitched roofs and wood siding, the architect also incorporated modern touches into the design.
Featuring modern metal roofing and Gendai® yakisugi “shou sugi ban” siding finished with silver weathering stain, the design provides a striking visual contrast while remaining in harmony with the natural surroundings. The interior ceiling, clad in our Sugi Flat Grain Unoiled paneling, introduces a subtle contrast in color and texture. The exposed, unfinished wood creates a warm, airy atmosphere that brings a sense of nature indoors. By using non-toxic materials throughout, the design creates a healthier living environment rooted in natural finishes.
